Plastic EPR Registration

Overview

Under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2022, every producer, importer, and brand owner (PIBO) using or selling plastic packaging must obtain EPR registration from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This registration ensures that companies are responsible for collecting and processing the equivalent quantity of plastic waste they introduce into the market.

Categories of Plastic Packaging

• Category I – Rigid plastic packaging
• Category II – Flexible plastic packaging (single/multi-layered)
• Category III – Multilayered plastic packaging
• Category IV – Compostable or biodegradable plastic

• Details of plastic packaging material used
• Agreements with plastic waste processors/recyclers
• Annual production or import data

EPR Targets

Each registered entity must meet annual recycling targets based on the quantity of plastic placed in the market. Compliance is reported through online submission on CPCB’s portal.
